Jakarta (ANTARA) – Russian Ambassador to Indonesia Sergei Tolchenov has signaled that new bilateral agreements between Jakarta and Moscow are expected to be signed on the sidelines of the 11th Eastern Economic Forum (EEF).
Despite the hint, the ambassador asked the public to wait for an official announcement. The forum is scheduled to take place in Vladivostok, Russia, from Sept. 1 to 4.
“I have heard – but please be patient enough (for the official information) – probably some contracts will be signed in Vladivostok on the sidelines of this Eastern Economic Forum,” Tolchenov said during a media briefing in Jakarta on Wednesday (August 26).
He noted that the embassy is also preparing for a potential meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto on the margins of the annual economic event.
Should the meeting between the two leaders be confirmed, the Indonesian Presidential Secretariat and the Russian Presidential Administration will likely make official announcements by the end of the week, he added.
Tolchenov noted that Putin and Prabowo have maintained regular communication. He expressed hope that this well-established dialogue would help finalize agreements between the two nations and yield tangible results at the upcoming forum.
“If the meeting in Vladivostok is held, the two leaders will continue to discuss how to promote our cooperation in all areas. Also, grain is coming, oil is coming, fertilizers are coming (to Indonesia),” Tolchenov remarked.
In his congratulatory message for Indonesia’s 81st Independence Day on August 17, Putin expressed his anticipation of meeting Prabowo in Vladivostok in early September.
The two leaders previously met in April during Prabowo’s visit to Moscow. Their five-hour meeting focused on bolstering bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors, including the economy, energy, aerospace, agriculture, industry, and pharmaceuticals.
