Bondowoso (ANTARA) – A joint search and rescue team was deployed Tuesday to locate two missing hikers on Mount Piramid in East Java, after their abandoned motorcycle raised alarms with local residents.
The missing individuals were identified as MF, a 51-year-old hiker from Surabaya, and INL, a 35-year-old local mountain guide from Bondowoso.
“After receiving the report, our rescue team from the Jember SAR Post was immediately deployed to the location to conduct search operations alongside joint SAR elements,” said I Made Oka Astawa, Head of the Banyuwangi Search and Rescue Office.
Astawa stated that search teams are utilizing all available resources to sweep the designated search area, emphasizing that personnel safety remains a top priority during the operation.
The incident came to light after the two men parked a red motorcycle with local residents on Saturday morning before setting off toward Mount Piramid.
Concerns grew when neither man had returned to retrieve the vehicle by Tuesday, prompting local authorities to coordinate a response based on suspicions that the pair had veered off course and become lost.
The search operation involves a combined effort including the Jember SAR unit, local disaster management authorities, police, military personnel, the Red Cross, and local volunteers.
